It’s Scotty Jet Pax season in Chicago:

To jog your memory, the Phillies traded Kingery to the Angels in November of 2024 for cash considerations. Then he was DFA’d, cleared waivers, went to Triple A, and worked his way back up, playing 19 games for Anaheim before being DFA’d again in September. He elected free agency and then signed a minor league contract with the Cubs in December.

Based on the language being used, it doesn’t seem like Kingery is going to necessarily stick on the 40-man, but you never know! The guy is resilient and has been battling and battling in an effort to get back to the majors. There was a point in the summer of 2019 when he was batting .280 and slugging .510 and knocking the ball all over the park, then he picked up an injury and the pandemic hit and his numbers went off a cliff.

Good luck to the guy, for real. Honestly can’t believe he’s still in the conversation in 2026, but good for him.
