Feeling Like the Seinfeld “Bizarro World” Episode With How Much Praise Mark Madden is Giving the Flyers
You know that guy Mark Madden out in Pittsburgh? He’s the dude with the Liverpool avatar on Twitter and does some kind of radio show or whatever. He worked in the wrestling world for a long time and absolutely hates the Flyers, like you can go through old Crossing Broad blogs and thousands of social media posts and this native Yinzer is just hammering the Fly Guys and Philly fans and calling us “scum suckers” and whatnot.
But as the Penguinos go down 0-2 in the series, he is shockingly one of the few media members out there calling it how it is. You scan the feed and get your typical homer stuff, like “the Flyers aren’t doing anything special, the Penguins just suck,” but this dude is handing out legit credit to the boys:
That last tweet is a good one. Fillipponi has been like an ostrich during this series. His head is completely buried in the sand. He’s rambling on and on about what the Penguins are doing wrong, but there’s nothing about what the Flyers are doing right, like using a 1-1-3 trap game against a slow Penguins team. They’re playing defensively sound hockey and getting sticks on pucks, blocking shots, limiting chances, just showing a lot of discipline from back to front and then getting out on the rush, like Owen Tippett in the third period of Game 2.
Elsewhere, That Josh Yohe guy has been reasonable, just sort of scanning his feed. Although it’s worth pointing out that Yohe writes for The Athletic while Poni is a sports radio talking head. I’ve kept an eye on “Penguins Jesus” and some of their other goofy influencer types on social and they are kind of like us – irreverent bloggish jabronies posting mostly for laughs and cheap engagement, as we play the content game while not taking ourselves too seriously.
But whatever, this isn’t a deep dive on Yinzer media. I was just kind of taken aback when I saw Madden being fair and balanced. This guy hates the Flyers and hates Philly with a passion but he’s out here giving credit where it’s due. And for that reason, he will neeeeeeever walk alone.
