I Hate Myself for Caring About a Saturday Night Sixers vs. Hornets Game in Late March
Kelly Oubre Jr. is BACK:
Let’s set the scene.
Joel Embiid is back. PED Paul George is back. Oubre is now back and Tyrese Maxey is close to a return. The Sixers are currently 7th in the Eastern Conference and just one game out of the five seed with nine to play. HOWEVER – there is only a two-game difference between 5th and 10th and the Magic and Hornets are both hot on the Sixers trail after winning on Thursday night. That means the margin for error is close to nothing as the Sixers head to Charlotte Saturday night to play a squad that has won five in a row and seven of eight. Kon Knueppel is out here dropping 18 a night while shooting 43% from three. This ain’t your grandmother’s Hornets.
Therefore, the stakes are high, and since the Flyers’ playoff chances are naught but a flickering candle in the wind, we begrudgingly shift to a Phillies/Sixers combo spring in hopes of a world fucking championship in South Philadelphia.
The thing about Sixers fandom is that we’ve all suffered so much since 2001 that you can jump on or off the bandwagon whenever you want. Just prepare yourself mentally. As the saying goes, “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.” Or, in the case of the Sixers, “fool me every single year since the Process ended, I am an idiot.” There’s also the George W. Bush version, when he had a brain fart and defaulted to a Roger Daltrey line. “You can’t get fooled again” –
