Owen Tippett’s Filthy Solo Effort Buries Penguins in Game 2
The Flyers beat the Penguins 3-0 in Game 2 and this was the moment:
This is a Penguins power play. He chases down the puck, dusts Tommy Novak, then jukes Kris Letang out of his 38-year-old shorts. Ben Kindel is a sitting duck and can’t do anything as Tippett slides it over to Garnet Hathaway for the tap in.
It doesn’t get much better than this. The hustle, the effort, the skill, the filth. One of the all-time plays in Flyers postseason history. These are the types of sequences that change games and can change the course of a series.
A BLUE COLLAR PLAY!
Not just that, but Tippett almost iced it in the third period with a breakaway in which he was hooked. He couldn’t convert the ensuing penalty shot, but in numerous circumstances through games 1 and 2 his speed and shiftiness have created opportunities for the Flyers. He looks really elusive out there and his direct north/south ability is causing the Yinzers, who are older than dirt, a lot of issues.
The Penguins, of course, started gooning it up after they went down 3-0. Dirty team! If you can’t beat them, make sure to cross check and take cheap shots instead. Not even Penguin lover Gary Bettman, who was in attendance, could save them on Monday night.
Flyers up 2-0 and coming back to Philly.
