Another playoff game in Pittsburgh, another win for the Philadelphia Flyers. Or as everyone outside of Pittsburgh calls them, “The Good Guys.”

In Game 2 Monday night, it was the second goal that you’ll see all day in every highlight reel you could possibly imagine. Hell, the NFL Draft might even have to include this one. Owen Tippett’s speed chasing down a cleared puck deep in the Penguins zone caused goaltender Stuart Skinner to play the puck around the boards. Tippett, already skating with momentum, reached the puck before a Penguin did. That’s where the real fun starts.

Tippett looked like he just wanted to push the puck deep once he got to it, but the puck followed his stick and after a check, he stayed in control of the puck and did a little DIPSY DOO action that caused two Penguins to fall into each other, leaving himself and Garnet Hathaway two-on-one. At what seemed like an impossible angle that Skinner had well covered, Tippett found the open Hathaway right in the center of the ice with an open net staring him in the face, and he didn’t make any mistake with it. Penguins radio color commentator Phil Bourque didn’t know what to say:

“Wow. I’m at a loss of words. Penguins just falling down over themselves while they’re trying to check Owen Tippett. You had Tommy Novak fall down. Kris Letang fall down. And Tippett’s like, ‘Oh my goodness, are you kidding me?’ Sends it back-door for a back-door tap-in for Hathaway. It’s one thing to be that inept on the power play. It’s another thing to give up a goal like that. 2-0 Flyers … That was like the worst dream you could imagine… and it actually is reality.”

In fairness, I don’t think I would react well to something like that happening to the Flyers. I had been down on Tippett for a while, and as recently as January. But the guy right now is playing some of his best hockey, and at the right time. If he continues playing like this, then I might need to invest in a Tippett jersey.
